How to Spend More Time Under the Mistletoe

Lip Wear – What’s Kissable?

How to Spend More Time Under the MistletoeLips are a prominent feature this season. Bright, bold colors; shimmering golds and high shine glosses are showing off holiday smiles and finding their way to rendezvous under the mistletoe. But will that lip wear keep him coming back or send him running for a face wash?

Shimmer and shine do their part to accentuate your pout, but they can also stick to whatever they touch. To keep from smearing your lip gloss all over him – and you – begin with a lip liner that compliments your gloss shade. Line lips and then fill in completely with the liner. Press a tissue to your lips to help set and blend the liner. Apply lip gloss to the center of the bottom lip, to the plumpest parts of your upper lip and pat with a tissue. Choose glosses and lipsticks that are long-wearing and will stand up to eating and drinking – a good sign that they will stand up to mistletoe as well.

Lots of product lines tout stay-put or long wearing lip color, but beware, stay-put often translates to over-dry lips. Lip color with added shimmer, has light reflecting particles that can settle in the creases of dry lips to create a very unkissable look. To help prevent drying, coat bare lips with a moisture rich lip balm. Allow it to dry before applying lip liner and lip color. Keep the lip balm on hand and reapply as needed throughout the night.

If your lips are thin or dry, thin glosses can feather creating creases along the lip line. To prevent creases and feathering, first apply a light amount of your foundation to top and bottom lip. (For thin lips, this allows you to use lip liner to draw a fuller lip line than your natural shape.) Pat with a small amount of powder and blot with a tissue. Line lips and fill in completely with liner, blot and apply a creamy, moisture rich lipstick or rich gloss. Blot with a tissue to set color. Apply a light second coat of gloss to center of bottom lip for extra shine.

For a stay-put, kissable look this holiday season remember to choose the lip color that best suits your smile. Dry, creased or mature lips should avoid thin glosses that feather and frosted lipsticks that reflect light. Select instead a moisturizing lipstick or rich gloss.

To keep your lips kissably soft, apply balm to bare lips and reapply as needed. Don’t assume gloss will keep your lips hydrated.

Keep your pretty pout in line by applying a light amount of foundation and powder under lip liner. Blot with a tissue to dry. Apply lipstick to entire lips or gloss to the middle of the bottom lip and the plumpest parts of your top lip.
