Summer 2008 Makeup Trends

Summer 2008 Makeup TrendsSummertime will always be marked by bare skinned beauties who have only to splash a little purified water on their faces and they look like they walked off the pages of Perfect Magazine. But this summer, they are so not cool, or fashionable, or trendy like the rest of us because bold colors that reflect the sand and the sun and the sea create the hottest looks for summer days and nights.

Let’s start with days at the office or anywhere other than the beach. To look polished but not overly made up, wear bronze-brown eyeliner along your lash lines and top it off with brown gloss mascara. Keep color to the top lid only if you are trying to cover dark circles. Color on both top and bottom lids and lashes creates a more dramatic, but heavy look. Bronze eyeliner is really what’s hot this summer. It defines your style, your attitude and your eyes by how much or how little you use. Add a bronzer with some shimmer, but be frugal with anything that glitters during the AM hours. You don’t want to look like you got ready in the dark. A cream blush in a nude, pink or peach shade gives a nice, fresh flush of color. Compliment your look with a lipstick in a nude shade.

At the beach, stick to one or the other – a light application of bronze eyeliner or brown mascara along the top lashes only. Always be sure to use waterproof everything. And, aside from SPF, the best thing to put on at the beach, says makeup artist Chrisanne Davis, is a lip gloss in a bright, juicy hue like cherry, peach or watermelon.

After hours, brighter, bolder hues are lighting up the night and your radiant skin. Chrisanne prefers a bold sweep of eyeliner in dark brown, charcoal, black, or deep navy. Navy is the strongest color of the summer. It looks great on just about everyone and it’s so dramatic without being overdone. Gold shimmery eye shadow looks and feels like the sun and it goes great with any of the eyeliner colors. Use a little or use a lot, wear it just across your lids, as an eyeliner, or dust it out to the far corners of your eyes – either way gold is hot this summer. Mascara can stay or go. With strong eyeliner, you really don’t need it but it can accentuate your eyes. You make the call. Dust shimmering bronzing powder across your cheeks and forehead to draw attention to your tan. If you want to be really dramatic, finish your look with a vibrant lipstick in an intense shade of coral red, melon or tomato red.
