The Beauty of Highlighter Pencils

The Beauty of Highlighter PencilsFor years, women have turned to makeup items and tools to conceal problem areas on the face while drawing attention to more favorable areas. If you’ve never heard of a highlighter pencil you may be happy to know that this simple makeup tool can do a great deal for your complexion. With a couple of tips and tricks, you’ll be able to customize a flawless makeup look that’s all your own.

As the name implies, highlighter pencils work to reflect light. That means whatever area of your face you apply the highlighter pencil to, you can expect that area to shine when the sun hits it. However, if done wrong, the results will turn out to be anything but flattering. For this reason alone, it is essential that anyone attempting to use a highlighter pencil knows the importance of placement, application techniques, and how to properly care and maintain their highlighter pencils for the best results.

Any highlighter pencil you purchase will come with its own special sharpener so do not use any other type of sharpener or you could damage it. If your pencil doesn’t come with one, be sure to purchase a sharpener made for use on highlighter pencils. This makeup tool is great for use as either an eye liner or eye shadow and comes in different textures: sheen, shimmer, glitter, and matte. It is important to know which texture will look best for your needs. Sheen highlighter pencils are ideal for a glossy and uniformed appearance. This type of pencil diffuses as well as reflects the light, which makes it great for masking fine lines. Shimmer highlighter pencils give shine but not too much. This texture contains tiny specks of shimmer so the overall look isn’t as pronounced. Glitter highlighters are all about sparkle and are like shimmer but more extreme. When you want attention, glitter will get the job done for you. Matte highlighter pencils don’t create any shine but are effective at brightening dark areas, much like concealer.

Application depends on the shape of your eyes and eyelids. First, make sure your highlighter pencil is sharpened to get a good line. If you are hoping to hide dark spots or dark under eye circles, use the highlighter pencil to sketch a few lines over the area. Then pat with your fingertip to gently blend. Follow up with foundation. For gals with close-set eyes, use your highlighter pencil and draw a line along the upper lash line. Start blending outwards but only do this for the area that comes after the first third of the eye. This will create distance and make your eyes appear a bit further apart. If you want to make wide-set eyes appear closer together, then place your highlighter pencil at the center of the creases of your eyes and smudge. Small eyelids can get help by applying highlighter pencil along the entire eyelid. When the light hits the area, your eyelids will appear fuller. To bring more shape to flat eyelids, apply highlighter pencil on the inner third of the eye and blend upwards towards the brow bone. To add balance to puffy or raised eyelids, use the highlighter pencil to sketch right under the arch of the eyebrow.
