Clothing and Fashion Tips for the Male Body

Clothing and Fashion Tips for the Male BodyDressing for your body type is key in pulling off a great outfit. Women know this better than anyone but that doesn’t mean that men shouldn’t know about this fashion tip as well. We may not think about it as much but men come in all shapes and sizes as well. If you tend to be on the heavier side or are as thin as a bean pole, chances are you may need some assistance in the fashion department.

Heavy-set men have quite a challenge when it comes to fashion. Not only do you have to find items that fit, they have to look good as well. That being said, the first thing heavy men should stay away from is clothes that fit too tightly. You’ll be uncomfortable and chances are the look won’t flatter you. Instead of dressing for a size you wish you were, dress for the size that you actually are. The last thing you want is to draw attention to the areas you don’t like. You’ll want clothes that create smooth surfaces and are free of lumps, bumps, and rolls. Another secret to dressing well for your larger frame is to avoid wearing bright and bold colors and patterns up top. This draws the eye upwards and directly to your problem spots. Instead, turn to solid, dark colors that will make you appear slimmer. When it comes to patterns, feel free to rely on vertical stripes since this can create the illusion of a longer torso.

When it comes to jeans and a heavy-set frame, stick to low rise styles instead of fitting your jeans right up to your waist. Do your best to find jeans with waistbands that accommodate your stomach and don’t have your belly hanging over. Pleats should also be avoided since it can emphasize the size of your pelvic area. Also avoid carrying around a lot of change or a large, bulging wallet. This can create unnecessary lumps and bumps that can make you appear bulky.

On the flip side, thinner men would appear to have it much easier when it comes to finding clothes, but that’s not always the case. Just as heavy-set men shouldn’t wear tightly fitting clothes, neither should slim men. Too-tight shirts tend to emphasize your thin frame in an unflattering way. Instead, go for shirts that come away from your torso slightly. This doesn’t mean you should only wear large shirts because the extra fabric will make you look overwhelmed by the shirt. When choosing a jacket, length is important. The ideal length for a jacket should be right under your butt. Any shorter or longer and you’ll draw attention to your short stature quicker. On a related note, when getting fitted for a blazer, pick one with small or light shoulder pads. Getting huge shoulder pads will make you look like a football player with oversized shoulders but a small frame, making for an awkward final result.

Thin men should also consider the jeans they decide to purchase. Keep the style simple with a flat front. Avoid skinny jeans and tapered trousers. Instead, opt for boot-cut or straight-leg styles. In order to make your legs appear less thin, add volume with pockets, lines and patterns. But beware of pinstripes since these will make your legs appear even thinner.
