Exploring the Most Common Skin-Care Issues Among Men

Skin Care Issues For MenThe world of skin-care has long been geared towards issues that commonly affect women. With an increasing number of men becoming aware of the need for daily upkeep of the body’s largest organ, and the fact that the needs of men’s skin are quite different from female’s, its time that skin-care education included some male-focused material.

How Is A Man’s Skin Different From A Woman’s?

As with almost anything male or female, men’s skin inherently varies from that of women’s. Hence, the skin-care issues that face men are different as well. Besides the obvious fact that a man’s skin faces the issue of growing thick, coarse hair that women’s skin does not, there are also differences in the growth, texture, health, and aging of the skin. For one, a man’s skin requires a different type of moisture than a women’s skin, since the pH level of men’s facial skin is different. Additionally, a man’s skin has a greater thickness than women’s, greater oil and sebum production, and different degrees of collagen. A man’s skin, therefore, ages quite differently than a women’s and because of shaving, their skin is more vulnerable to sensitivity to products, redness and irritation, and break-outs.

The Skin Issues Common To Men and Your Best Defense Against Them

Many men give no further effort to the health of their skin than lathering with a drying, deodorant soap, running a razor across their face, applying a painful, alchohol-based aftershave, and calling it good. We know it’s not your fault – no one ever told you how this common routine can cause unbalanced and irritated skin. Because of this lack of education, and until recently, more balanced products for men, men’s facial skin commonly suffers from redness, razorburn, break-outs, dryness or excessive oilyness.

If you are of the male species that feels hesitant to spend any significant amount of time or money on skin-care, not to worry – there are several simple, straight-forward skin-care lines to choose from. It is possible to pay a little more attention to the health and appearance of your skin, while still keeping your routine simple. Don’t be intimidated by the plethora of available products that promise all sorts of skin-care miracles.

So what to look for instead? Simple. Look for a pH balanced cleanser developed especially for men. This will attend to your special acidity needs and aid in keeping moisture levels balanced, thereby reducing irritation from shaving. Don’t forget moisturizer – a man’s face needs it just as much as women’s and you’ll need these same qualities in a moisturizer as you’ll need in a cleanser. Avoid products that are not specifically made for men. It’s a safe assumption that if a product does not indicate that it is specially formulated for male skin care needs, that it is best suited for a woman. Don’t waste your money purchasing products that will not be most beneficial for a man’s specific skin care needs. And lastly, as much as possible, stick to natural products with as few ingredients as possible and avoid any product with alcohol or perfumes.
