First and foremost, do not wear your socks with holes in them anyplace else except at home. No matter how young or old you are, just about every man has a collection of funky socks that look like Swiss cheese, are discolored, suffer from bleach stains, or other weird signs of wear and tear. There’s nothing wrong with lounging in them when you’re watching sports on television or doing housework but these types of socks do not belong out in the public eye. Period.
You may love your white socks but be mindful that other types of socks do exist in the world. All men should have a decent collection of dress socks to go with your suits and dress shoes. Doing otherwise will draw unwanted attention, especially when you sit down and your bright white socks make their appearance. Dress socks are usually made of a thinner material and tend to be in darker colors, mostly black. Don’t think you can get away with wearing regular black socks, either. The two are completely different and people will be able to tell. So do yourself a favor and go to your nearest department store and get a couple of pairs.
White socks are perfectly fine for daily activities such as working out, playing sports, running errands, etc. but be careful about how you wear your white socks. If you’re wearing jeans, then it isn’t as big of a deal but if you plan on wearing shorts, your best bet is to go with ankle socks or no socks. Wearing regular, long, white socks can look weird with shorts and if you roll them down, they’ll look even more awkward. Also remember to replace your white sock collection with fresh, clean ones every few months. You can’t expect your white socks to always stay white or to stay in good shape so updating them with new ones when needed will keep your wardrobe looking good. Additionally, it’s helpful to remember to match the color of your socks to the color of your pants and not the color of your shoes. So black pants should go with black socks and brown pants with brown socks.
Keep your socks organized. Regardless of how many or how little you have, you can avoid having socks with no matching partner if you sort them accordingly. Separate your socks by color in your drawer and also keep the dress socks sectioned away from your regular socks. This will make finding the right kind easier, saving you time while pulling together an outfit.
