You know where you’re taking her and maybe you know what you’re going to wear, but what about the rest of you? Grooming is an important part of your style and knowing the right grooming essentials for that special date not only makes a lasting impression, it’s also a great habit to keep.
The first thing you might want to consider a week or so before the big date is a haircut. A great cut can hide any imperfections you may have or highlight your best features. Talk to your stylist about a cut that will work with both your hair type and your face shape.
While you’re getting your haircut, you may also want to consider asking your stylist about trimming or tweezing any stray or busy eyebrow hairs that you have. Neat and tamed eyebrows are essential to great grooming. If you’re stylist can do so, have him or her trim any nose hairs as well. If not, invest in a nose hair trimmer and get rid of the hairs yourself.
Since you are already out and about, look for a nice smelling cologne that suits your senses if you don’t already have one at home. Ask the lady working behind the counter what she thinks of the cologne or ask about free samples and find out which one smells the best on you. Keep the cologne simple when you put it on. While you and your date may both love the smell, too much of a good thing can also be distracting.
If you haven’t already done so, now is also a good time to invest in some essential grooming products for your hair and skin. Look for a shampoo and conditioner that is designed specifically for your hair type. Look for a deep cleansing shampoo and conditioner if you have oily hair or a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner if you have dry hair. If your scalp tends to be flaky, look for an anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner.
For skin products, look for a cleanser, moisturizer and a sunscreen for your face. If your skin tends to be oily, look for products that are oil-free and skip the moisturizer. If you have dry skin, look for a moisture rich cleanser and moisturizer, and steer away from soap since it can dry out your skin.
If you have the time and can afford it, get a professional manicure. If manicures aren’t for you, just be sure that your nails are clean and trimmed for the big date. You can do this by investing in a pair of good nail scissors or clippers. If you want to take it one step further, buy a nail file while you’re at it to file down any rough edges on your nails. If you’re planning to wear an open toed pair of shoes, you’ll want to get a pedicure or take care of your toes in the same manner as your fingers.
Don’t forget shaving essentials if you don’t already have them. Look for a razor that is double-edged to eliminate ingrown hairs and those little shaving bumps. Instead of shaving foam, use a gel or cream since foams can be drying to the skin.
Finally, keep your breathe in good standing. Bad breath is a big turn-off, so brush your teeth, floss and use a mouthwash to help eliminate this problem. You may also want to pick up some breath mints if you’re planning to go out to dinner on your date.
Keep the above essentials in mind along with your manners and you could have your date smiling in not time at all. Good Luck!
