Male-Friendly Tips for How to Dress on the First Date

Male-Friendly Tips for How to Dress on the First DateNot all guys are fashion savvy and when it comes to the first date, you’ll definitely want to make sure you give off a good first impression. Each guy has his own style but if you’re a little lost as to what threads you should keep handy in your wardrobe, there’s nothing wrong with asking for some assistance. Because first dates can vary, read on for sample outfits you can snag for when you plan on going out to the club or choose to kick back at the movies.

It’s important to make sure you find a happy medium when it comes to what you plan on wearing on your first date. You never want to be overdressed or underdressed. Luckily, this process doesn’t have to be easier said than done. Thinking of taking your lucky lady out for a night on the town? With the following clothing items, you’ll be able to get into any top spot without waiting in line:

Jeans – With the latest designs, jeans can be just as suave and crisp as a pair of slacks. Find a good pair that fit you well and are a reasonable length and cut. For nights out, stick with darker colors of denim or black, which make it easy to mix and match.

Dress Shirt & Blazer: Mix a bit of funky with class by wearing a dress shirt as well as a blazer on top. It helps if the dress shirt is made of breathable material and is lightweight. You can choose a shirt with stripes or a different pattern as long as it matches with the rest of your ensemble. Be wary of what color you wear and anticipate getting slightly sweaty if you’re going to a popular spot with a lot of people. The blazer you choose should be lightweight as well and can be a funky color as well, depending on your tastes. Once you start to get a little warm, you can ditch the blazer and still keep your outfit together with your dress shirt. A two for one combo!

Movies are still a popular first date of choice for many couples. The great thing about going to the movies is that you can truly be comfortable with whatever you’re wearing and you don’t have to worry about them getting dirty, since you’ll be sitting in a theater. However, with these suggestions, you’ll be able to wow your date before the movie and have her thinking about you and your stellar style long after you’ve dropped her off:

Short-Cut Jacket – In case you weren’t aware, movie theaters tend to be pretty cold so be prepared ahead of time by bringing along a stylish short-cut jacket. Look for jackets in colors that work with most of your shirts in your closet. Traditional collars and zip-up styles will keep your ensemble fashionable but practical.

Jeans – Once again, jeans can come to the rescue for your first date outfit without too much hassle or thinking. Opt for dark straight leg jeans you feel good wearing.

Typical t-shirt – You heard right. Because you’ll be sitting in a dark theater for a while, it doesn’t really make sense to wear your best shirt - your date won’t be looking at it for most of the date anyway. Take advantage of this causal situation by wearing a nice shirt that fits you well. You can choose a plain cotton shirt or one with a funny graphic or message. The possibilities for the type of shirt you can wear to the movies are endless.
