Men & Yoga: Why the Two Go Together

Men & Yoga: Why the Two Go TogetherYoga has been around forever but in general, most people assume it’s a “chick thing.” However, men may be surprised by all of the great health benefits that come with participating in this type of physical activity. So why not try something new and see what it can do for you? Not only will you have more energy, you’ll be able to tap into your inner self in a way that can’t be achieved by bouncing a basketball or tackling your buddies out on the football field.

As a man your motivation to try out yoga should include more than hoping to meet some single ladies in a yoga class. If you really put your mind and effort into it, you can really gain a lot from this ancient practice. In a nutshell, yoga combines breathing, exercise and meditation to help people not only stay in shape but reach the highest levels of relaxation while achieving a level of personal and universal consciousness. A bit too deep for you? Instead of trying to understand the philosophy behind the concept, take the easy way out by signing up for an entry level yoga class at the local gym. Because of the popularity of this form of exercise in the past few years - with both men and women - chances are you won’t have a hard time finding a gym that offers these kinds of classes. Go in with an open mind and don’t be afraid of a challenge.

Stick with a good yoga class at the gym and you will quickly see the benefits. For one thing, this ancient practice aims to calm the mind and help you find a level of serenity. Translate that into your busy everyday life and you’ll discover new ways to manage your stress. When you’re able to focus and not let certain things overwhelm you, your stress levels will be super low, making day-to-day life easier to handle. Additionally, the less stress you experience on a regular basis, the healthier you will be. Aside from being in better spirits, the exercise routines taught in a yoga class also help build strength, which is a plus for any exercise regimen. Yoga poses may seem simple at first but after a few minutes of trying it out, you’ll be shocked at how challenging they can be. With time and practice, your body will become more toned and defined - not to mention it will do wonders for your overall health. Practicing yoga as part of a weekly exercise regimen can decrease your chances of developing conditions such as heart disease and depression. For some men, yoga has even helped improve their sex lives.

As if that isn’t enough, a yoga class combined with a healthy diet and other forms of exercise is an effective way to help with weight loss. Think about it: less stress, a toned body, no love handles, a happier outlook and love life and a healthy immune system…what more could you ask for?
