The Man’s Guide to Buying Fashionable Hats

The Man’s Guide to Buying Fashionable HatsWhat man doesn’t want to look stylish and snazzy? When it comes to hats, the choice you make will either get you kudos from your boys and compliments from the ladies…or a collection of critical stares and head shaking. To avoid the latter situation, it is ideal to first learn how to choose the right fashionable hat that not only matches your style sense, but will actually complement your face and features.

Want to jazz up your next outfit for a night out on the town? All you have to do is add a hat. However, not all hats are the same and not all men can wear just any style, color or shape. To get the most fashionable results, it is a must that men do research to find out what options are perfect for them and which ones should be left on the shelf. Below are the common hat styles that are really popular today, as well as basic information as to what kind of man can pull each type off without a hitch:

The Fedora

What man doesn’t feel powerful or like a Mafia boss when donning a fedora? This style has literally been around forever and always makes its way back into the spotlight at one time or another. So who is the ideal man to select the fedora style? This hat looks best on men with broad shoulders and/or round face shapes. Depending on the color of the hat and the outfit paired with it, men with olive, tan and brown skin tend to wear the fedora best because it works well with a number of wardrobe colors. If you’ve got a really thin face shape and pinched features, the fedora will more than likely emphasize those assets…and not in a good way.

Men that love this style will want to make sure they wear this type of hat right as well. To add a bit of attitude, wear your fedora with the brim tilted to the side ever-so slightly. Pairing this style with a more casual outfit? Then push the brim up a bit higher on your forehead for a playful, yet laid-back demeanor.

Tweed Walking Hat

Men that posses a thin face with pinched features will want to turn to the tweed walking hat style. Unlike the fedora, the tweed hat (specifically, the style that has a tight pinch at the front) emphasizes the features of this face shape but in a flattering way. The most dashing fellas will want to choose a tweed hat that contains a combination of colors, such as grays and blacks, mixed in with a few sprinkles of white.

Newsboy Cap

The newsboy cap is perhaps one of the most in demand styles men sport today. From the average Joe to Hollywood’s leading men and male supermodel favorites, the newsboy cap can’t go wrong. This particular style actually suits the majority of face shapes, which gives any fella the opportunity to add some class with a touch of youth to their wardrobe. Make sure to choose a color/pattern that complements not only your outfit but your skin tone and hair color as well.

The Porkpie

The name may be silly but with the right face shape and features to match, this hat style is anything but silly. Men with compact, rounded faces look best sporting the porkpie. If you’ve got a pointy chin or a long or oval face shape, avoid this style because it will create the illusion of drastically cutting off the top of your head.
