They say the clothes make the man but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Real men with a real sense of style know that their clothes don’t wear them - they wear the clothes. If you’re not used to embracing your style sense, there is no time like the present to learn. Perhaps one of the easiest ways to begin the process is to turn to other men for inspiration. From friends and coworkers to family members, there may be a guy or two you hang out with who has a style that you’ve always admired. Don’t be afraid to ask him for some tips, which could be as simple as finding out where he shops for his clothes. However, there is a difference between admiring a man’s style and wanting to snag it for yourself. If the outfits your friend wears look great but you don’t believe they would be a good match for you, then don’t try to copy that particular style.
Don’t have any guy friends or male family members to turn to for inspiration? Then celebrities will be your next best bet. For example, is there a male celebrity who has a sense of style that you could see yourself wearing? Chances are you’ll find tons of photos for reference on the Internet. Print out a couple that you like and see if there are any local stores that carry similar outfits or you could search online to find out where to find such clothing items. If you’d rather start on a clean slate, make some time to head to the mall or local men’s department store and browse around. You’ll find that you naturally gravitate to certain styles and colors. There will be salespeople to assist you, answer your questions and even help you choose your wardrobe. When all else fails, practice the buddy system. Find a friend who is willing to go along and offer a second opinion - you can even bring your significant other. Even though you’re shopping for men’s clothing, many women are attuned to what looks good on a man and what doesn’t.
The main piece of style advice any man can benefit from is to use common sense and trust your gut. When you look in the mirror and see yourself in your new threads, you’ll automatically know if you’ve found an outfit that you feel good in. If there is any hesitation or you have to force yourself to like it, that’s more than likely a sign that it’s not for you.
