Summer 2008 - What’s Hot in Men’s Hairstyles

Summer 2008 - What’s Hot in Men’s HairstylesOn runways all across the globe there is one way to describe men’s hair for summer ’08 – rocker chic. Don’t panic! This is an everyday look that doesn’t make you look silly or like a rocker wanna-be. It goes from respectable to bad boy and you don’t have to raid your girl’s medicine cabinet for a ton of hair styling products. The key is in the bangs. But before you who don’t and never again will have bangs… or any hair at all tune out, you are not doomed to be without style this season. Bald is back and it’s hotter than ever. And when we say bald, we mean all the way. Bic-ed (shaved with a Bic razor) heads that glisten in the sun are showing up everywhere and not just because you’ve got no choice. Bald translates to bad boy and adds a whole new dimension to rocker chic.

Back to the bangs. There are two styles that dominate the scene, but they both share the same long, swept to the side bangs. They are all stylishly messy and, depending on how cooperative your hair is, need minimal product. The style you’ll see the most is close cut in the back with length starting at the ear line. From the ears forward, hair and bangs are the same length – whatever it takes to get your bangs below your eyebrows. If you’ve got thick hair, think throwback to an early 60’s yearbook – dark rimmed glasses and bangs brushed forward over the entire forehead then barely pushed to the side over the eyebrow. Who knew this look would make girls scream again? If you don’t have mounds of hair, think Johnny Rzeznik’s bangs from the Goo Goo Dolls. In varying degrees of rocker-messy, this style is it! Bangs are pulled low across the forehead and separated with a small amount of hair wax or styling serum. They should end just below the eyebrow.

The second look maintains those bangs but adds length to the sides and back. The maximum length you’ll see is shoulder length and that’s pushing it. About two inches above the shoulder for back and sides is fashion this summer. No mullets. Let’s repeat that. No mullets and no ponytails. Length is even in the back and sides once you grow the back (behind the ear line) as long as your sides. And guess what? Curls are back and girls are lovin’ them. Just please, please don’t go to the perm. Curls are only in-season if you were born with them. This style is still stylishly messy and soft. No heavy products. Only use what it takes to create and maintain your look which should be somewhere between windblown and runway.

So boys, whatever style you choose. Add a little rocker chic to it and you’ll be high fashion as temperatures rise.
