How to Enjoy Fatty Foods without Feeling Fat

How to Enjoy Fatty Foods without Feeling FatWe’d all be lying if we said we didn’t enjoy some fatty foods once in a while. Even the best health nut has their own favorites when it comes to treats and snacks. Unfortunately, our fascination with such food can lead to health problems, heart conditions, and weight issues. Instead of being a prisoner, break the bonds and learn how to enjoy fatty foods in moderation.

Whether you realize it or not, fat in foods is actually a good thing. The fat that is present in your favorite bag of chips, cookies, ice cream, and salad dressings not only add the taste and consistency we all love, but it is also an essential nutrient. Fat when absorbed in the body is necessary for proper growth, development, and overall good health. Calories are also included in fat, which are needed by both adults and children for energy - not to mention that fat also contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Despite all these health benefits, there is the saying about having “too much of a good thing.” In moderation, fatty foods can contribute positively to a daily diet, but when too much fatty foods are consumed this can trigger a host of health problems. Too much fatty food in the body also means a high intake of saturated fats - this type of fat is a major player in high blood cholesterol levels.

In order to be able to enjoy your favorite fatty snacks without feeling guilty or putting your health at risk, you have to be able to limit your fat intake. If you’re not into calorie counting and cutting specific fats out of your diet, make a list of your must-have snacks and create a schedule that you can follow. For example, only allow yourself a handful of cookies on Saturday and a few scoops of ice cream on Sundays. Vary the items throughout the week and know your limitations. When grocery shopping, only buy one or two bags of your favorite snacks so that you aren’t tempted to overeat and can easily moderate how much you’re consuming.

Another alternative to fighting the temptation to overindulge in fatty foods is to start buying foods that are low in fat or contain fat substitutes. You can find just about any type of your ideal snacks in a low fat version… most don’t even have a difference in taste. Because of the variety in foods that have fat substitutes, it is now possible to indulge in snacks and goodies more often without making yourself vulnerable to heart disease, heart attack, and clogged arteries. Having fat replacers in food allows you to consume to your heart’s content, while still providing your body with the essential benefits of fat and calories.

Who knew good health could be achieved in such a tasty way?
