The Best Foods for the Male Diet – Part 1

The Best Foods for the Male Diet – Part 1Sure, eating your fruits, vegetables, red meat and dairy are the easiest ways to maintain a healthy diet but sometimes that isn’t enough. Even what species you are can make a difference. In this case, it’s the male species. There are certain foods that men need to include in their daily diet as they get older.

Most men tend to have hearty appetites but as they get older, especially for those over age 35, the foods they choose to eat can make or beak the status of their health. Consuming a consistent helping of a handful of key foods can deliver much-needed nutrients to the male body. As a result, some of the most common ailments can be avoided, as well as developing an improved cardiovascular system and immune function. Did you know that having a healthy and stabilized cardiovascular system has been medically shown to improve erectile function? Bet that got your attention, fellas.

So what are these key foods that every man should be familiar with?

Oysters

These delicacies of the deep contain large amounts of zinc. This antioxidant mineral is responsible for a number of things within the human body including repairing cells, producing DNA, and even preventing the type of cellular damage that can lead to prostate cancer. Having zinc in the male system can also improve the male reproductive system - namely increasing sperm count. The amount of zinc contained in one oyster is so abundant that only a handful is needed each day.

Broccoli

As a boy, you may have gotten away from your mother’s plate of broccoli at dinner but now it’s time to face the music. Broccoli contains some of the most important nutrients the human body needs: potassium, vitamin C, beta-carotene and sulphoraphane. The results of a recent medical study show that men who consumed five servings of vegetables like broccoli were half as likely to get cancer of the bladder, which is a condition that affects more men than women. Broccoli also contains an ingredient that helps to lower the levels of a particular amino acid that has been found to increase the risk of heart attack and disease. If you just can’t stand the thought of consuming broccoli, make sure to help yourself to servings of cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and bok choy.

Bananas

One of the more tasty foods on the list, bananas can do a lot for the male body. Its rich levels of potassium make it perfect for regulating blood pressure, nerves and your heartbeat, which can reduce the risk of stroke. One banana a day supplies the male body with enough vitamin B-6 to help develop more healthy red blood cells, improve the immune and nervous system, and helps with metabolism.

Whole Grains

According to most doctors, men are great about getting carbs in their diet but it’s about consuming the right carbs that make a difference. Having whole grains in the daily male diet help with building muscle, keeping the heart healthy and strong, and trimming the fat off the male waistline. If you’re not sure what kind of whole grains to include, try a helping of whole grain pasta, oatmeal, barley, and whole grain products that offer between 3- 5 grams of fiber per serving. Other foods to try for fiber also include beans, pears and apples.
