Foods rich in selenium (a mineral that helps to boost the growth of skin cells) such as turkey, cereals, muffins, and Brazil nuts all contribute to beautiful and healthy skin. Scientific studies have proven that prolonged exposure to the sun is less damaging if selenium levels in the body are modest.

 

Copper, another important mineral, helps to develop fibers that support skin from underneath the surface: the collagen and elastin. Copper supplements can be especially dangerous. Doctors urge individuals not to take extra dosages of the mineral. However, using copper-rich creams can give the body`s skin much of the same effect with positive results. These creams are said to firm the skin and restore the elastic element.

 

Zinc, another skin-friendly mineral, helps acne-ridden skin. Most people who are deficient of the mineral suffer from acne. This mineral clears the overproduced oil on one`s skin. Zinc has been known to help clear acne ridden skin faster. Food such as poultry, lean meat and oysters are zinc rich.

 

Another mineral that cures acne is chronium. To get the appropriate amounts of this mineral, individuals should take supplements that contain either chronium polynicotinate or picolinate. Chronium in food is not easily absorbed; most people are deficient of this mineral. The mineral is lost when food is processed. High-sugar diets also contribute to the loss of chronium in the body.

 

Look to the minerals outlined above for beautiful and healthy skin. Remember, moisturizers and lotions should only constitute a small part of the skin care repertoire. Beautiful skin starts with the nutrients you consume first and topical applications second.
