Acne and Wrinkles – How to Treat this Unfair Combo

Acne and Wrinkles – How to Treat this Unfair ComboYou’ve worked your entire life to control your oily skin. Oily skin has a mind of its own and has to be cleansed and moisturized daily in very specific ways. The fight against acne is an especially tough one for those of us with oily skin. As skin ages, all the problems and complications unique to our skin type age right along with us and, as an added and totally unfair bonus, wrinkles are now part of our daily skincare routine.

Acne and wrinkles – that seems like somewhat of an oxymoron. But it is a difficult-to-treat truth for many. If this becomes your combination skin, you can’t just casually use any old treatment on the market. Most anti-aging products aren’t designed specifically for oily skin. The moisture rich bases create a pool of extra oils and serious outbreaks of adult acne.

Many manufacturers are taking notice of this and there are now acne and wrinkle treatments created just for you. If you are shopping for this combo, here’s what to look for to get the most out of your skincare.

Because you may always have to address the issue of occasional breakouts at best and serious acne problems at their worst, you need a high-performance product that reduces the oils on and in the skin. You most likely will benefit from using a series of products intended to be used together. Rarely can a single product successfully do the job of two or three. Don’t think of it as a clever ploy to get you to spend more money. Realize that you are getting multiple products that specialize in fixing a specific part of your combination of skin problems. An oil mattifier that reduces pore size with glycolic acid also needs to absorb and control the production of oil on the skin. The finish you should be left with is matte and smooth and polished – yes, it is possible to have it all! Skin discoloration is another serious part of your skincare and should also be addressed by this product.

A second product needs to treat the visible signs of aging. A nighttime hydra-gel can often work best. It uses the restorative rest time of your skin to absorb deep to deliver ingredients like PHA that dramatically reduce the appearance of aging skin. Together with the mattifier, your skin is effectively treated for its combination of problems but leaves you with everything your skin needs: a smooth finish - both visibly and to the touch, a retained matte finish even under makeup (be sure your makeup is formulated for your skin type or you could be shooting your skincare routine in the foot), less oil and smaller pores.
