Three Natural Cures for Acne

Three Natural Cures for AcneWhether you are fifteen or forty, a pimple can just seem to ruin your day. There are lots of good acne formulas on the market today, but many can wreak havoc with sensitive skin. If you are looking for a natural cure for those dreaded breakouts, look no further than your pharmacy or even your refrigerator for the perfect acne remedies.

Essential Oils

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that can be used for a variety of functions, including treating acne effectively. Why does tea tree oil work? There is a component contained in tea tree oil called terpinen-4-ol that gives tea tree oil its antibacterial properties. If this substance is applied to the skin topically, the anti-bacteria feature will kill the bacteria in the skin that is known to cause acne. Tea tree oil needs to be diluted before it is applied topically, and can be quite effective at keeping acne breakouts at bay. Lavender oil is another essential oil that can be used to cure acne, due to its ability to fight the effects of stress.

Minerals

Zinc is a mineral that can be taken orally or applied topically to help fight acne. The antibacterial properties in this substance can also help in healing wounds, controlling inflammation and keeping the skin looking healthy and beautiful. Keep in mind that too much of a good thing when it comes to zinc can be damaging and even dangerous to your body. Beware of high doses of this mineral, since it can disrupt some normal body functioning and interact with other medications. It is preferable to get your zinc from your food rather than in high dose supplements. Applying zinc topically is also a good choice that will allow your complexion to reap the benefits and help you say goodbye to acne.

Overnight Treatments

Since acne can go deep underneath the skin’s surface, it makes sense the topical solutions that are applied and washed off right away won’t be as effective as those that are left on the skin for a longer period of time. You can go for the easy options like applying a bit of toothpaste to pimples before bed, or leaving an application of lemon juice on overnight. Ingredients like turmeric, cinnamon powder and sandalwood can be placed in a paste to be applied and left on overnight as well. Other ingredients that will work well on the face and do not need to be left on as long include egg whites, potatoes and tomato pulp.

Finding the best acne cure for you may be as simple as a trip to the health food store or a stroll to your kitchen. Sometimes natural ingredients really are the best for a healthy, blemish-free complexion. Keep in mind that most of these solutions will work best when they are combined with plenty of water intake, a healthy diet that is rich in antioxidants and daily exercise. A healthy lifestyle will lead to problem-free skin and a more beautiful complexion from the inside out.
