Anti-Aging & the Battle of the Sexes

Anti-Aging & the Battle of the SexesThe battle of the sexes has raged on for centuries. Even today, there are many things that men and women experience differently. From love and work to friendship and even aging, the differences between men and women are numerous and only seem to increase each day. In terms of aging, even Father Time approaches each gender in its own way.

Getting older is inevitable and no matter how much money you spend on miracle anti-aging products or beauty treatments and procedures, the hands of time are bound to catch up with you one way or another. One thing you may have noticed is that men typically age in their own way compared to their female counterparts. This isn’t by accident. Men and women are not built the same physically so it only makes sense that they would age differently as well.

In terms of skincare and aging, the male complexion is much tougher than a woman’s. Because of this, it is not as prone to developing visible fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, a tougher complexion also means that it is better protected against ultraviolet damage. Believe it or not, the act of shaving also works in a man’s favor when it comes to getting older. Each time a man shaves, he is thoroughly exfoliating his skin, which removes layers of dead skin and actively promotes cellular turnover. The fact that a man’s complexion is also oilier helps to further ward off the signs of aging and deep wrinkles. So what does this mean for men? It means that they have quite the advantage in the skincare game. Over time, men tend to get more and more handsome as they grow into their looks - whether they remain youthful in appearance or develop that rugged, more masculine look.

However, having the upper hand on aging in this sense doesn’t always mean that men can get away with not taking care of their skin. It is still important to maintain a healthy, daily skincare regimen with products that cater to each man’s specific skin type. Over time a man’s skin actually becomes thinner and if you don’t already take care of your complexion, it could spell consequences for your skin in the long run.

On the flip side, women have complexions that are not only softer but more sensitive as well. Regardless of skin type, women are prone to developing the signs of aging earlier in their lives because of the lack of tough skin. Exposure to the sun and other extreme temperatures, pollutants and even the skincare products they use all have their own effect on a woman’s skin, especially as she gets older. Because the estrogen levels in women tend to decrease as the years go by, this results in skin that is dry and less supple. Collagen levels also tend to drop rapidly in older women and depending on how you take care of your skin in your younger years, your complexion could actually change in texture or even pigmentation.

Since women are much more prone to the act of aging than most men, it is vital that they take the steps necessary to care for their skin while they are young. Protect your complexion from sun damage by wearing sunscreen, avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures and pollutants and practicing a diligent skincare routine on a daily basis.
