How Anti-Wrinkle Creams Work

How Anti-Wrinkle Creams WorkIt’s no surprise that as we get older, so does our skin. While some of us may embrace this next stage in life, many others aren’t quite ready to show the natural signs of aging. It is for this reason alone that the anti-aging industry has continued to make millions, if not billions, of dollars a year developing and distributing anti-aging products that promise a youthful complexion. Anti-wrinkle creams continue to be the most popular item sold. But how do they work?

As the technology used in developing anti-wrinkle creams becomes more advanced, so do the product themselves, as well as the formulas. Take a look at any shelf in the beauty section of your favorite department or drugstore and you’ll find scores of various types of anti-wrinkle creams.

What make these anti-wrinkle creams effective are the formulas and ingredients contained in each jar or bottle. Even though there are dozens of different types of anti-wrinkle creams, they all share very common ingredients. Depending on what your anti-wrinkle needs are, read the labels and make sure they contain any or all of the following for a complexion that is free of fine lines and wrinkles:

Coenzyme Q10: This nutrient is key in regulating the energy production of cells. When aging skin cells begin to slow down, this makes the skin prone to wrinkles and oxidation. Coenzyme Q10 acts as a quick pick-me-up that reenergizes skin cells, causing them to bounce back into shape, firming deep-set wrinkles and creating fuller, plumper skin. When combined with vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10 becomes a powerful antioxidant that eliminates free radical damage.

Antioxidants: The best players in this area of free radical-fighting ingredients include tea extracts (black, green and oolong) and vitamin E. These ingredients specialize in targeting free radicals and preventing the skin from oxidation, which is the leading cause of wrinkles and fine lines.

Hydroxyl Acids: These acids come from the sugars contained in different types of fruit that act as exfoliants, which slough off layers of dead skin on the surfer in order to make way for new skin cells.

Copper Peptides: This ingredient not only helps with antioxidant action but also helps with wound healing, making your skin clearer and smoother. Copper peptides also play a role in stimulating the skin’s collagen levels.

Retinol: As a derivative of vitamin A, Retinol is the first antioxidant used in anti-wrinkle creams without a prescription. This ingredient is very potent when it comes to decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It works by increasing cellular turnover (when cells are lost and aren’t able to quickly repair themselves, the skin becomes prone to wrinkles and fine lines), evens out skin tone and improves skin texture, for an overall healthy and youthful appearance.

When combined, these super ingredients are able to take an aging and dull complexion and turn back the hands of time effectively. Ask your dermatologist which anti-wrinkle formula is right for your skin type and do a patch test to make sure your skin doesn’t have a bad reaction.
