Detoxification In The Fight Against Premature Aging

Detoxification Against AgingSince the skin is the body`s largest organ, it`s no surprise that the body uses this route to expel many of the toxins that are being cleansed and released from the body. The more toxins that enter the body, the harder the organs need to work to expel them, and the more effects are seen on the skin, including the affects of premature aging. For this reason, it is important to consider the source and amount of toxins that we encounter in our lifestyles, in addition to how to minimize these toxins in our endeavors to preserve a youthful look.

Internal Detoxification For More Youthful Skin

Internal detoxification is key in achieving a more youthful, radiant glow to skin. Many products are available on the market that promote internal detoxification including milk thistle products which aid the liver in removing toxins from the body, and herbal teas and digestive enzymes that aid in proper digestion and help flush accumulated toxins from the digestive system. A healthy and cleansed liver is key to a more youthful look, since it’s job is to filter toxins. After the liver has filtered toxins from the body, however, it is important to ensure these toxins are expelled - a process that can be aided by the supplementation of herbal teas and digestive enzymes. A diet rich in natural fibers, such as one including plentiful greens and whole grains also greatly enhances the body`s ability to rid itself of the toxins that accumulate through external agents as well as those consumed orally. Individuals who practice detoxification through diet and supplementation experience smoother skin tone, a natural skin glow, and less fine lines and wrinkling.

The most essential ingredient, however, in the detoxification of the body is the daily consumption of an adequate supply of water. Water not only improves the hydration of skin, but also improves the organs ability to cleanse and flush toxins through the digestive system.

External Detoxification For Younger Looking Skin

Though not as effective and cleansing as internal detoxification, there are several topical supplements for skin that also promote cleansing of toxins that can accelerate premature aging including Coenzyme Q-10, Adenosine Diphosphate, and a popular product known as SAM (S-adenosylmethionine). Clinical trials have shown that topical applications of these products help to reverse the adverse effects of toxins such as heavy metals and environmental chemicals on the skin. Topical herbal and anti-oxidant products also promote detoxification of the skin by aiding in cell transport and repair which improves the elimination of cellular toxins.

Avoiding Toxins That Lead To Premature Aging

The best way to ensure that the body and skin are detoxified is to practice a healthy lifestyle with natural and organic food choices. Natural and organic foods, especially green vegetables, colorful fruits, and whole grains, accumulate less toxins in the digestive systems than processed and packaged foods including foods high in sugar, flour, and refined carbohydrates. Healthier food choices, combined with the detoxification methods above, will ensure a cleansed and healthy digestive system that will give the natural and healthy glow needed to look years younger.

My dermatologic practice has clearly demonstrated to me that skin aging is not just a loss of collagen, but also a loss of water. It’s the loss of both that accounts for fine lines, deeper wrinkles, folds and even sagging of the skin as we age. Collagen, no doubt, is the primary structural protein
