Reality Checks to Get Over the Aging Blues

Reality Checks to Get Over the Aging BluesWhile there are some that fully embrace the fact that they are getting older, many more run screaming from the thought. However, aging is inevitable and even with the best anti-aging treatments and skincare products, Father Time will knock at your door. Unfortunately, many women tend to fall prey to the aging blues and feel that they should simply throw in the towel in the looks/maintenance department. By using the following reality checks, women of any milestone age can easily beat those annoying bouts of the aging blues.

Reality Check #1: It Makes Sense to Look Your Age

Just as it is silly for a 15-year-old girl to worry about having wrinkles in her youth, it’s equally as silly for a 30, 40 or 50-something-year old woman to worry about the fact that she doesn’t look like a 20-something-year-old. Guess what? You’re not supposed to! No one with common sense expects a 45-year-old woman to have the same physical appearance as a 25-year-old. Even if someone managed to pull this off, chances are they would look anything but normal. Comparing yourself to someone that isn’t even within your age range is a waste of time, nor would anyone expect you to place priority on such an unnecessary concern. Be proud of how you look for a woman of your age.

Reality Check #2: Work With What You Have (Instead of Wishing for What You Don’t Have)

It may be easy to sit around wishing for a smoother, more youthful complexion, less wrinkles and gray hairs and a more taut body but accomplishing this in reality is next to impossible. Trying to make this come true through the use of cosmetic and plastic surgery won’t guarantee bona fide results and would cost a fortune. So why spend energy on trying to fix all the things you wish you had or no longer have, when you could devote that time and energy to working with what you’ve got? For example, if you’re less than thrilled with the gray hairs cropping up in abundance on your head, skip out on spending money trying to dye it back to the color of your youth and instead opt for going all gray, silver or salt and pepper. Having this professionally done will give you great results that make the most of what you’re working with.

Reality Check #3: It’s Okay to Dress Your Age

While you may no longer qualify as an ideal candidate for a mini skirt or tube top, no one says you have to don a floral dress of the Grandmother variety. Fashion trends are now embracing women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Learning how to find fashion styles, designs and brands that cater to your age group are no longer a difficult chore. Instead of sporting super form-fitting outfits, opt for ensembles that flatter your figure while offering comfort. If you’re not sure where to start in creating your new wardrobe, look to celebrities in your age range and use their style sense as a starting point for inspiration. They look fabulous at their age without trying to literally turn back the clock, and you can, too.

Aging: Denial or Acceptance

“Forty is the new thirty.” Sound familiar?
