How to Choose the Perfect Moisturizer

How to Choose the Perfect MoisturizerEven though there are hundreds of moisturizers on the market today, are there really that many differences? Are the names really a description or even an indication of what they can and will do for your skin, or are they just marketing ploys? The truth is that there are some major distinctions between moisturizers that may make a big difference in your satisfaction. While not all brands are created equally, and some will simply deliver better results than others, the differences are there.

Hydration lotions and creams are specifically designed to add and lock moisture into your skin. Most have ingredients that will nurture your skin. These are natural, plant-based ingredients that contain emollients derived from such things as coconut and jojoba. These lotions are normally quickly absorbed into your skin to allow the ingredients to work beneath the skin’s surface much like a glass of water has to work from the inside out in order for you to receive the benefits. A quality hydrating lotion will protect against dehydration as well as make your skin feel like it`s just had a drink.

Moisturizers designed to soften skin are often packed full of gentle ingredients such as chamomile and lavender blend helps promote a soft, supple skin texture. The purpose is to leave your skin feeling resilient and moisture-refreshed. Because soft skin must be moisturized to stay supple, you will often see the both listed on the front of packaging. They work hand in hand, although moisturizing lotions are not necessarily formulated to soften.

Sensitive formulas are meant for skin that has a low tolerance to many ingredients at once. You’ll need to become a label reader if your skin is very delicate or sensitive or if you suffer from eczema which can be triggered by certain ingredients like added fragrance. Fragrance-free is one of the first things you should look for on your label and also on the list of ingredients. Even if fragrance is far down on the list, it may still be very strong and irritating. Delicate skin needs gentle moisturizer and it needs to be replenished to feel soft, smooth and comfortable. Look for weightless, fast-absorbing formulas that have soothing ingredients and vitamins.

Skin firming moisturizers are the first in a long line of dual purpose products that you need to research or sample before investing in. As you can begin to see, there can only be so much formulating that can go together and still be effective. Moisturizers that claim to do everything for your skin are unable to focus on one area and serve it well. Organic and plant-based ingredients and peptides all work together to make skin firming moisturizers work for you.
