DIY Cosmetics

Doing it at Home vs. Visiting a Salon

DIY Cosmetics

A trip to the salon can be expensive. This is why many people prefer do-it-yourself cosmetics. Because beauty products are now readily available to everyone, professional or not, performing DIY cosmetics at home has become easier than ever. Unfortunately, not every DIY cosmetic adventure goes as planned. In certain cases, a trip to the salon can correct a mistake or save you from a beauty blunder entirely.

Cosmetics in the Home

In most cases, you can perform your own cosmetic services at home. Whether you do it yourself, or have a friend help you out, there are many different beauty treatments that can easily be taken care of in the comfort and privacy of your own home. These treatments include:

·    Manicures

·    Pedicures

·    Make-Up Application

·    Hairstyling

·    Body Waxing

·    Facials

·    Skin Care Treatments

Other more advanced cosmetic treatments, such as hair coloring and highlighting can also be done at home. However, if you are inexperienced with these treatments or any of the treatments shown above, it may take some time to perfect your skills. When doing beauty treatments in the home, sometimes it is simply a matter of trial and error. Just like the professionals, you will eventually get a feel for what works and what doesn’t.

Cosmetics at the Salon

In some cases, a visit to the salon is necessary. Often, cosmetics for special occasions, such as weddings and proms, are best left to the professionals. A home mistake can sometimes ruin the magic of these events. A trip to the salon can also be a way to treat yourself or your friends to a special day. Many salons now offer spa type treatments, such as body wraps and therapeutic massage.

Here are some cosmetic treatments that may constitute a visit to the salon:

·    Hair Coloring

·    Hairstyling

·    Haircuts and Trims

·    Facials and Full Body Wraps

·    Massage

·    Hair Removal

·    Professional Make-Up Application

·    Spray Tanning

When choosing a salon to perform the services shown above, or any other cosmetic service, be sure to get recommendations from your friends, family, or co-workers whenever possible. If you are choosing to go to a salon, it is important that you find the right professional for your cosmetic needs.
