It is a skin rash which is caused by yeast that lives on normal skin of generally eighty percent of the population. In a number of cases, the presence of yeast on the skin is not visible. Unknowingly, in some people the yeast grows more actively and it causes a red, itchy, scaling rash. It is found in the moist areas of the body and it grows in the skin folds under the arm pits, breast and stomach. It is a pathogenic fungus which exists all around us and can be found on the skin, mouth or other mucus membranes and gut. The fungus turns into infectious factors when antibiotics or other factors result in overgrowth of these fungi. One should take note of the fact that this infection does not spread throughout the entire body but limits its activity to the infected mucus areas.
Cause
It is caused by yeast called Candida albicans and it might occur as a result of antibiotic therapy. Although the rash can occur in anybody but people suffering from diabetes are more prone to getting Candida rashes. The multiplication of the yeast fungi results in Candida yeast infection. The amount of other microorganisms gets reduced and the Candida fungus replaces them which cause the infection. Detergents can also result in rashes on the skin which destroy the skin microflora. Even detergents or scented products for intimate use can result in the infection. One should pay attention to the bathing products and choose a low pH product. The body should be kept clean and dry.
Symptoms
The symptoms associated with Candida include abdominal pain with bloating and diarrhea, constipation or fatigue. The symptom occurs because yeasts ferment sugar in the diet to produce alcohol and carbon dioxide. It also results in allergic symptoms which results in inflammation and it can affect many different organs. It also results in production of toxins which can cause a number of effects and cause metabolic abnormalities. Inflammation of ovaries and thyroid diseases is also associated with Candida.
Treatment
One should apply anti-yeast cream on the affected area twice a day followed by hydrocortisone cream. One can apply the two medicines at the same time. The anti-yeast cream is only available with prescription. Some doctors prescribe pills but they can cause side effects. If one is getting concurrent Candida infections, one should get a glucose tolerance test in order to rule out diabetes mellitus. Serum candida antigen titer test, serum candida antibody tests and stool candida culture test are conducted for diagnosing the disease.
