Dyshidrotic Dermatitis

It is form of hand eczema. It is more common in women and starts on the side of the fingers. In the beginning it is itchy and then develops into a rash. In some cases it can only affect the feet. In some cases it can be present both on the feet and the hands. It affects both the men and women equally. It affects people in between the age of 4 to 76 years.

Cause

The exact cause of Dyshidrotic Dermatitis is not known. It has been found that people with atomic Dermatitis also develop Dyshidrotic Dermatitis. So it can be seen that Dyshidrotic Dermatitis is just a form of atopic dermatitis on the feet and hand. Emotional stress does not cause it but can make the condition worse. It can be generally seen during the times of stress. In some cases Dyshidrotic dermatitis may be caused by quinoline, chromate, nickel, or neomycin.

Symptoms

The rashes of Dyshidrotic Dermatitis occur on the feet and hands. The sides of the fingers and the palms are the most affected. In some cases the soles of the feet can also be affected. The rash is very itchy and looks like a deep-seated, clear, tapioca-like vesicles.

Treatment

Epitrex is a natural treatment which is very effective and helps in eliminating flare-ups. An important part of the treatment is skin protection. Prevent direct contact of the hands with detergents, scouring powders, soaps and other irritating chemicals. Protect your hands by wearing cotton lined, waterproof gloves. While squeezing and peeling oranges, grape fruit, lemons, handling tomatoes and peeling potatoes wear waterproof gloves. In case you are doing heavy work and gardening then wear heavy gloves. Dry gloves are advisable when doing dry work. Do not do your laundry and dishes by hand. Use a washing machine or a dishwasher or let a family member do it for you.

Direct contact with paint thinner, paints and turpentine is not advisable. Things containing irritants like polishes for floors, shoes, metal and furniture should be used while wearing a heavy duty glove. Use lukewarm water to wash your hands. No soap is gentle so after washing your hands dry them gently. Rings generally worsen the condition so remove them while doing house hold works. Wear unlined leather gloves to protect hands from drying. It takes a long time to heal so cover the hands for at least 4 months after the dermatitis is healed.
