Go Tropical with Fruits for the Skin

Go Tropical with Fruits for the SkinWith the many bright and juicy fruits that have hit your supermarket from tropical regions, did you ever consider trying some of these tantalizing selections on your skin? The fact is that there are a number of tropical fruits that can work as well in your skin care products as they do in that smoothie you had for breakfast. The key is in knowing which fruits work best with your skin type and how to get the greatest benefit from your tropical experimentation.

Which Fruits to Choose?

There is any number of tropical fruits that you could apply to your skin for a beautifying effect. Banana has become such a common choice that it is hard to remember that it is actually a tropical fruit. However, this food does indeed originate in the tropics, and it also happens to make a great choice in a skin care ingredient. Bananas are high in protein and fat, and will work to soften and smooth any skin type. This tropical fruit also makes an effective hair conditioner when mixed with honey. Stock up on this easy to find fruit for all of your summer beauty needs.

Other tropical fruits that are commonly found in skin care are papayas and pineapple. Both of these fruits are rich in active enzymes that can work wonders on the skin by exfoliating and softening. Pineapple is an especially good choice on dry areas like elbows, knees and heels. For a complete pampering and softening treatment for your feet, make a pineapple juice soak that your tootsies can indulge in. While these tropical choices may be good for your skin, there is definitely such a concept as too much of a good thing when it comes to putting papaya and pineapple on your skin. Limit exposure to no more than five minutes before washing off, and make sure that your skin does not show signs of irritation before using a second time.

Avocado is another fruit that is great for the skin, because it can make an effective moisturizer. Avocado oil is found in many skin care products because of its moisturizing properties, as well as its anti-aging benefits. You can create your own avocado skin care products at home, or you can find any number of commercial products that contain this wonderful ingredient. Another great tropical choice for moisturizing is coconut milk, which you can add to a number of your skin care recipes for an addition softening factor. And few can resist that delicious coconut smell that says “summer” all over!

Tropical fruit ingredients can be found in a number of commercial skin care products or you can hit the produce aisle of your supermarket to create your own. Your skin will reap the many benefits that these fruits can offer, while your nose will delight at the wonderful aromas that remind you of the beach on a warm summer day.

Summer has arrived. Think tropical.
