One of the most popular product formats out there today are organic/natural skincare items. It seems that in the health-conscious society we live in, consumers want to make sure that even their daily beauty and skincare routine contains nothing but the best and most healthy ingredients that aren’t concocted in a science lab. Studies show that the price consumers will spend on natural personal care items will reach a whopping $20 billion in the US and Europe alone. These same market studies show that a third of consumers in the US and Europe spent money on products that contained natural ingredients and variants on a more frequent basis than one to two years ago. The majority of these natural product formats purchased are baby-related items: lotions and moisturizers, balms and soaps. It seems that the fear of unknown ingredients that are hard to pronounce, as well as the concern for overall health and wellness is what is prompting consumers to go all natural.
When it comes to what types of natural skincare product formats are in demand, those that contain ingredients that cater to dry, sensitive and problematic skin types are the most sought after. Many consumers see “natural” ingredients and variants as “safer” and “healthier” for their skin, as well as more effective. For this reason alone, natural skincare products that offer superior, long-lasting hydration to the skin are very popular. Such products contain a combination of the following key ingredients: aloe vera (improves hydration, soothes all skin types, speeds up wound healing, and encourages normal skin cell growth), avocado oil (rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, fatty acids, lecithin and protein, this oil provides natural nourishment and nutrients to dry skin types, those with eczema, and even offers natural UV ray protection), grape seed extract (fights free radicals, contains potent antioxidants and absorbs easily into the skin), safflower oil (offers deep moisturizing properties, as its moisture content is almost the same as that of human skin), and shea butter (rich in fatty acids, shea butter slows cellular degeneration, protects against the effects of the sun and works as a great moisturizing emollient).
In addition to the growing popularity of natural skincare products, another fast-growing product format involves the use of skincare products that contain natural self-heating properties. Because of the increasing demand from consumers for products that offer spa quality results with the spa (or prices), the skincare industry is beginning to formulate and distribute special skincare items that contain compositions that create a warm, tingling sensation when combined with an increase in the skin’s blood circulation and water. Because of this desirable soothing effect, manufacturers are starting to add these self-heating cosmetic compositions to everything from hand lotions, body lotions, facial masks and depilatories, shaving creams and foot creams.
