No longer solely the domain of the granola set, organic food and personal care products have left the food co-op and hit the mainstream. Today, nearly all grocery stores boast organic food sections and consumers are taking notice. With frightening news about the potential toxicity of conventionally manufactured skincare and cosmetics, it’s no surprise that all things pure and natural are in demand.
Research suggests that the typical woman uses over 200 chemicals on her skin every day - about 60 percent of these chemicals are directly absorbed into the bloodstream. With ailments ranging from mild to severe on the rise, going organic is the best move you can make for your entire body. As an added bonus, your skin will look great!
What is Organic?
Organic skincare products are comprised of plant ingredients grown without pesticides or chemicals. Certified organic means that the farming standards for a product’s ingredients are certified by a state or private organization.
How can I tell a Product is Organic?
Many products claim to be “pure” or “natural.” The “certified organic” seal lets you know that they’re the real deal.
How long will Organic Products Keep?
Organic products do not use synthetic preservatives like parabens. Hence, they don’t last as long as commercially manufactured products. Unopened organic skincare products will keep for a year and a half. Once opened, they have a shelf live of about four months. Always check the label, as individual products vary.
Why go Organic?
Quite simply, we live in an increasingly toxic world. From the food we eat to the air we breath, we are battling a constant assault of pollutants that have been linked to a host of ailments and diseases - even fertility problems.
How will Organics Benefit my Skin?
Many organic skincare products are packed with fresh, skin-loving antioxidants like grape juice and Vitamin C as well s botanicals and herbs. Some studies show that organic products may contain much higher levels of antioxidants than commercial products. Advocates of organics also claim that the skin oxidizes when exposed to ‘toxic’ ingredients and products - much like the skin’s reaction to UVA exposure and cigarette smoke. Therefore, organic products pack more of an anti-aging punch than their conventional counterparts.
Organic Brands
With green products at their peak of popularity, there are many fabulous organic skincare brands to choose from. Because these products are so effective, they’re sure to be a hit with those interested in organic lifestyles as well as women who just want to look fantastic!
