Your Parents’ Old School Skincare Versus Today`s

Your Parents’ Old School Skincare Versus Today`sSkincare and beauty products have been around as long as the ancient Egyptians but the times have changed and what once worked for your parents back in the day surely would not do you justice in present times. Although there are some that haven’t completely changed, the ingredients, formulas and skincare technology definitely makes certain products stand apart, compared to its original form.

If your parents are stuck in a skincare time warp, show them something new by reintroducing the same skincare products in a whole new light.

Old school: Vanishing Cream. This cream has a long history dating back to the late 1800s. Women used vanishing cream to soften and cleanse their skin. Using the fingertips, vanishing cream was applied to remove makeup and dirt from the face, followed by using a napkin or cloth to wipe it off afterwards.

New school: Cleanser. With the creation of cleanser, you can now clean your face and remove makeup and other dirt and oils all in one fell swoop. While there are skincare products that advertise “vanishing cream” in its name, this is often in reference to the lightweight and silky texture of the cream that allows the skin to absorb it without leaving a trace.

The lesson: Because the meaning of vanishing cream seems to be lost in translation, opting for a cleanser will take care of any confusion and come in a variety of formulas for every skin type.

Old school: Witch Hazel. Known as the cure for all ailments, witch hazel has also been used in skincare as an astringent for many years. Containing antioxidant and antiseptic properties, this product thoroughly cleanses the skin and is also a useful ingredient in treating acne.

New school: Toner. With the advancements in skincare, toner is the new witch hazel. Containing many of the same properties, toner is designed to shrink pores and remove traces of dirt, oil and other surface debris left behind after cleansing. It isn’t always necessary to use toner but many are specially formulated to balance and restore the skin’s natural pH balance.

The lesson: Witch hazel will always be around but to really give your skin a jump start, using toner as part of a daily skincare regimen will guarantee clean, clear pores and a refreshing experience. However, if you or your parents can’t justify paying the money for a toner, then sticking to good ole witch hazel won’t cause any harm.

Old school: Soap & Water. Before cleanser, there was soap and water. For years men and women alike have used regular soap to wash their face. Men are especially prone to using the same soap they use in the shower or bath on their face.

New school: Anything but soap! If you’re not going to use cleanser, at least buy soap that is made for your face. Regular soap tends to dry out facial skin and isn’t gentle enough for everyday use.

The lesson: Educate your parents about the importance of not using regular soap on their face and add a bar of facial soap to their skincare collection ASAP!
