In addition to tightening pores, getting gunk out of the skin, and removing trace residue of cleanser, toner actually helps improve the blood circulation and also promotes a healthy glow. The regular use of toner can also benefit aging skin. The earlier you start using this skincare item, the better off your skin will be by being tighter and enjoying an overall rejuvenated sensation.
A few helpful tips when it comes to toner include using a cotton ball or cotton wool (depending on your skin’s reaction) to apply the toner to your nose, neck, cheeks and chin (avoid the eye area). The great thing about toner is that you don’t have to go to the skincare counter at the store and spend your hard earned dollars on a specialty formula if you don’t want to. You can simply create your own toner. Because the effects of toner do vary from skin type to skin type, it is important that you use the appropriate ingredients, depending on what type of skin you have. If you are currently suffering from any breakouts or have open sores/lesions on your complexion, do not apply toner until the skin has fully healed.
Dry skin should take care to only deal with rose water based products. If you want to make your own toner at home, dry skin types can combine rose water with diluted mineral water and apply with a cotton ball. Normal skin types can also benefit from this recipe. Combination skin should take care to avoid skincare toners that are too harsh. When applying toner (either homemade or store bought) be sure to avoid the dry cheek area, since this will only serve to irritate the area. Instead, focus on applying toner to the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). For a homemade toning recipe, combination skin types can mix two parts rose water with one part witch hazel for a refreshing and invigorating experience. Oily skin types definitely need toner and can safely choose a stronger formulated toner for their skin’s needs.
If you’ve got a can of tomato juice in your kitchen, you’ll be surprised to know that this common household ingredient is actually a natural skin toner. For a special recipe, you’ll want to mix tomato juice with honey until the mixture is nice and sticky. Use your fingertips to apply the mixture to your complexion, including your neck and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse with lukewarm water.
Rose water is an essential ingredient in natural toner because of its ability to soften, smooth and relieve tired and dull skin and it’s great for all skin types. You can also look into Rose Geranium to calm upset skin and soothe conditions such as rosacea, couperose, and is even gentle enough to tackle skin with blemishes. When in doubt, witch hazel is always an ideal substitute for regular facial toner.
