Start each of these looks with a super lightweight, breathable foundation with an SPF of 15 or higher. By choosing a light foundation or tinted moisturizer, you can reapply after a swim to even your tone and protect with the sunscreen. Sweat-proof foundations will help if you require more coverage, but be careful to apply sparingly so you don’t clog pores. Remember that when you’re applying your makeup at home you aren’t in the sun’s glow like you will be. The reflection on the water and the sand will improve your skin’s appearance immediately. Follow with concealer only in the areas you absolutely need it. For those with dark under-eye circles, remember you have sunglasses and the water’s glare to act as your concealers.
For the minimalist
, you’ll love tints. Eye, cheek and lip tints come with SPF protection and can contour and add a hint of shimmer. Try an eye tint in a vanilla shimmer applied over the lid near the lashes and along the highest part of your browbone. Use clear mascara to plump and lengthen lashes. For your cheeks, rub a small amount of tint over the tops of your cheeks where the sun hits. Choose shimmering shades ranging from light pink to rose, depending on your existing tan. Remember, you’re adding sunscreen as you add makeup, so blend well and apply as much for protection as for appearance. Finish your look with a cocoa or berry tinted lip balm in SPF 30. These add shine and a barrier against the waves and the sun.
Tip: Your skin color will get darker and/or redder as the day does on so don’t make yourself look like a clown by wearing tons of pink on your cheeks.
For an afternoon trip
when you’ll be out in the setting sun, try this look that will accentuate your tan and capture the glowing sunset. Sweep a shimmering gold or bronze eye shadow or eye cream color along the lashline and crease. Accentuate with a thin, light line of charcoal or soft brown liner. If you’re done swimming, lightly sweep soft black mascara over your lashes. Use waterproof if you’ll be taking another dip. Dust your cheeks, forehead and the tip of your nose in shimmering bronzer. Forget the lip liner and lipstick and stay with a shimmering beach bronze gloss. Don’t over do it, but don’t be afraid of shimmer in this look.
When afternoon turns into an evening on the beach
, this look continues to glow and catches the light from beach bonfires. Apply apricot shadow from browbone to lashline, add a tawny orange shade in the crease and a shimmering bamboo highlighter at the browbone. Apply any of your eye colors along the lower lashes. Finish your eyes with a sable liner along the outer corner of both upper and lower lashes and a sweep of black mascara. Dust your cheeks with sunset colors like bronze, tawny oranges or orchid. Lightly line lips with coral liner and a grapefruit lip glaze.
