How to Get Your Skin Ready for Swimsuit Season

How to Get Your Skin Ready for Swimsuit SeasonSummer is fast approaching and now that the weather is no longer cold, everyone is starting to come out of their hibernation mode. What does this mean for your skin? With the temperatures starting to heat up, that means you can no longer hide behind thick, long coats, jeans and sweaters. Bring out the tank tops, shorts, skirts and the most recognizable symbol that summer is here: the swimsuit! However, the winter months may have covered up problem skin that must now meet the standards of the new season.

The first step to getting your skin prepped for swimsuit season is to update your skincare routine. If you’ve been a good skincare practitioner, you’ll already be prepared to switch your daily skincare regimen from winter to summer. There is a difference. Pay attention to your skin and how it changes as the weather gets warmer. Address these changes accordingly with the right cleanser, toner (if needed), moisturizer and of course, sunscreen products.

Any blemishes, discoloration or breakouts should be treated immediately either through diligent skincare or with the assistance of a dermatologist. The sooner you address these issues the faster your skin will be able to recover in time to look its best on the beach or on a sunny day out around town.

Now that your complexion is set for the summer, it’s time to turn your attention to the skin on the rest of your body. A common skin problem for folks coming out of winter and into the summer is the appearance of dull and ashen skin. Since the colder months don’t require baring much skin, if any at all, most of us don’t bother to exfoliate or take the other skincare steps to relieve dull skin. Break out the loofahs, body wash and exfoliating scrubs now! Begin reintroducing the exfoliation process into your body care daily or as needed. Beef up on the water as well for natural skin hydration. For those on the pale side, now’s the time for your favorite bronzers and self-tanning products.

The next challenge to face when daring to put on this year’s swimsuit is the subject of body hair. Legs and underarms should be silky smooth while prancing out and about on the beach or around the pool. Pick your poison: shaving, waxing, electrolysis or depilatories and start making the right moves to achieving smooth and soft skin. If you’re trying a new method of hair removal, be sure to do a patch test first and wait a few days to see how your skin reacts instead of just jumping in and using the product.

Not only do you need to take the necessary steps to improve your skin from the outside, you’ll also need to strengthen it from the inside as well. In addition to the daily glasses of water you should be drinking, start loading up on the fruits and veggies in the coming summer months. Also add a multivitamin into the mix. By adding your daily diet into your summer skin routine, you’ll be able to face the upcoming months with the best skin ever.
