The major skin problems of adolescents are acne and oily skin.
Acne
While not restricted to any particular age group, acne primarily affects teens. These unsightly spots on the face, back, shoulders and upper arms can be distressing to young adults.
There are many different types of acne, but the most common is clogged pores which result in whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.
The main cause of acne is bacteria, therefore it is important to keep the face clean. It is never a wise thing to touch your face or pick pimples with dirty hands. Washing two or three times per day helps remove bacteria and excess oils that block the pores.
Thankfully, almost all types of acne can be treated. Treatment options depend on the type of acne you have and your skin type. Acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide is especially good in helping to control acne.
Oily skin
Skin that is oily tends to be thick and shiny and prone to blemishes, especially blackheads.
Too frequent washing of the face will only serve to make the problem worst as the skin will produce more oil to replace what has been lost. Two or three washing daily
with a mild cleanser is adequate. The use of toners and astringent will also help to minimize the unattractive shine that results from oily skin.
Although persons under twenty-five do not need to exfoliate, those with skin problems such as oily skin and clogged pores will need to a few times per week.
In order to keep skin clear and picture perfect, it is good to develop good skin care habits from early.
