The Beauty Benefits of GarlicA small clove of garlic has been regarded as having health benefits for the body for thousands of years. Raw garlic is chalked full of natural agents that help it function as an antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, antiseptic and a germicide. It is also an antioxidant, so a diet rich in raw garlic fights against harmful free radicals. Garlic is also known to be a diuretic helpful in combating water retention and helpful in flushing toxins. Applied topically garlic can work as a skin minimizing anti-inflammatory. There are many ways in which garlic can be used to directly battle beauty problems, but a regular regimen of fresh garlic intake can help prevent against needing to use garlic topically. One easy way to get all of the beneficial properties of garlic fresh every day is to eat a clove of minced or chopped garlic each day in a cup of applesauce, yogurt or cottage cheese. Add it to any meal after it is done cooking to seal in all of the beneficial properties that can be cooked out by frying or baking.

 

Try using garlic the next time you are suffering from one of these common beauty complaints:

 

Acne

Mix the juice of 2 cloves of garlic with an equal amount of white vinegar. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture to affected area several times a day. This garlic vinegar acne treatment uses the antibiotic, antifungal, antiseptic and germicidal properties of garlic to fight the acne while its antioxidants help repair and protect the skin from free radical damage and help draw out infections. The vinegar balances your skin’s pH levels.

 

Cold Sores

The next time you are suffering from a cold sore, cut open a raw clove of garlic and apply it directly to the sore. The garlic juice will sting, but it will aid in healing the sore and making sure it does not get infected.

 

Psoriasis

Treat the red and itchy skin patches characteristic of psoriasis with garlic oil. Purchase garlic oil gel capsules full of oil at a health food store or online and simply poke a needle hole in the capsule and apply the oil liberally to the affected area.

 

Hair Loss

Garlic has been used as a natural hair loss treatment for ages. Use garlic oil on the area losing hair and cover overnight. Repeat this process for several weeks. Wash off the garlic oil in the morning.

 

Athlete’s Foot

Treat the itchy and unsightly fungal infection known as athlete’s foot with raw garlic. Mince a few raw cloves of garlic and cover the affected area with garlic and cover with gauze overnight. Wash your feet in the morning, and apply garlic oil on the affected area and cover with your sock. Repeat this process until the redness and itching has been gone for several days.
