The benefits with trying home skincare recipes are pretty numerous. For one thing, such recipes tend to be on the more natural side since they involve ingredients that can be found in the average home. A great majority require the use of fresh fruit, which provides the complexion with natural antioxidants. Another added benefit is that this method is much more affordable than spending hundreds of dollars on fancy, top of the line skincare products.
However, using home skincare recipes are not without its flaws. Before trying any home recipe on your complexion it is important to follow these easy steps in order to make sure you have nothing but a positive experience.
Do research.
Don’t just take anybody’s word when it comes to a homemade skincare recipe. Even the recipes that have been in use for a long time should still be researched thoroughly to make sure it is suitable for your complexion. Your skin type should be the first thing to take into consideration. Find out if you have any allergies or negative skin reactions to any of the ingredients listed in the recipe. Go online and find out what other people’s experiences have been with the recipe in question.
Find alternatives.
Have you come across the ideal home skincare recipe but can’t use some of the ingredients due to allergies or negative skin reactions? Find out if any of the ingredients can be substituted for something similar. Most recipes online will state if substitutions can be made. However, if no such substitutions are possible you’ll want to move on to the next recipe. Never take a risk when it comes to your skin.
Patch tests are a must!
Even if the home skincare recipe in question contains ingredients that seem perfectly harmless, test the treatment on a small area of skin first. It is usually best to wait 24 hours or longer to see if there are any signs of an allergic reaction. It is much easier to do damage control on a small area of skin in the event of a negative allergic reaction compared to your entire complexion.
Fresh ingredients are best.
Depending on what the listed ingredients are in your home skincare recipe, follow the instructions to a tee. If the recipe states that fresh fruit should be used, don’t take a risk and use the fruit that’s been sitting in your refrigerator for a few weeks. In general, fresh ingredients give the best results.
