Even Hollywood celebrities don’t always get it right the first time around when getting breast implants. Many have had to resort to getting their implants taken out and/or replaced with new ones. To avoid these issues, it’s best to take your time with research and knowing what types of implants will look right on you. Your surgeon will also provide you his/her feedback on what they feel would be best for you. Be sure to consider their advice in addition to what you want. Once you’ve found a good surgeon to perform your surgery, the next step is to choose your implant type. The two types of implants you’ll get to choose from are saline and silicone. Saline implants are filled with a saltwater solution, which is almost the same as the fluid that makes up most of the human body. This allows your implants to feel firmer. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel that helps your breasts maintain a natural shape that is similar to that of your natural breast tissue. Silicone implants tend to feel and look more natural if done properly.
You’ll also have to consider the shape of the breast implants you’ll be receiving. You can choose between anatomical and round implants. Anatomical implants are an oval shape, which more closely resembles the natural shape of a breast. One downside to anatomical implants is that they have the tendency to move around within the breast so many come with a textured surface that is designed to keep the implants in place. Round implants never change their shape and tend to look less realistic than the anatomical implants. Unlike anatomical implants, round implants often remain in place and do not move around.
Size is the most important factor for many women when it comes to getting implants. Your surgeon will ask you what you think your ideal cup size should be and will give you his/her feedback. Remember you want your implants to look natural. Also take into account your body shape. Women with small, petite frames can look odd or off balance with C or D size implants. After surgery, your breast size may look different than you anticipated. Swelling around the area can make your chest look larger. Wait until you’ve fully recovered and your breasts have naturally dropped and settled to get a better idea of the actual size and shape.
