Light therapy is now been increasingly used as a treatment for depression. It has been found that it has certain advantages over drugs take more time to show results.
Light therapy is also used to remove acne. Acne light therapy involves the use of highly sensitive blue light for its removal while laser acne therapy involves the use of highly sensitive laser rays that kills the bacteria under the surface of the skin. This makes acne removal a high tech practice.
Certain use and benefits of light therapy are:
·
It softens scars and acne.
·
It lessens dark spots and reduces enlarged pores.
·
It increases the skins capacity to heal on its own.
·
It increases the production of elastin and collagen in the skin.
·
It gives the skin a radiance look and maintains the moisture of the skin.
·
It restores the youthful glow of the skin.
·
It enhances the skins ability to repair and renew itself.
·
Helps to build a resistance towards aging.
·
Gives the skin a smooth texture.
Certain precautions to be taken:
The use of light therapy should be done with caution. Excessive ultraviolet rays causes damage to the skin. It causes the destruction of Vitamin C and Vitamin A as well causes genetic damage. It has been found that visible blue light causes damage to the DNA and causes it to break.
Phototherapy lamps that are used to treat seasonal affective disorder do not emit UV rays and therefore are safe. Here it should be kept in mind that photosensitizing drugs are not being taken along with it. Just like drug treatment, light therapy changes the mood and there are chances of triggering a manic state.
