Dermatitis is inflammation of the skin. It can produce scaling, flaking, thickening, itching, and color changes of the skin. There are many factors which can cause or contribute to dermatitis. These factors range from allergies to anything such as cosmetics, metals, plants, perfumes, etc. Stress and sunlight are other common skin irritants that cause and exacerbate dermatitis. Dermatitis caused by an allergy or irritant is called contact dermatitis. Hereditary dermatitis is called atopic dermatitis, and it is often present during infancy. Another type is called nummular dermatitis, and is considered chronic because of the large round legions that appear on the limbs. Dermatitis herpetiformis is a dermatitis that is itchy and is associated with intestinal and immune disorders. A very common form of dermatitis is eczema, which is identified by the presence of fluid filled blisters that ooze, weep, and crust over. The form of dermatitis that affects that scalp and face is called seborrhea. If you are plagued with dermatitis, there are many ways that you can change your eating habits, and increase certain vitamins and supplements to ease your symptoms and heal your skin. Here are a few suggestions:
Avoid Dairy Products.
If your skin is inflamed and nothing seems to help, try changing your diet. Often, alleviating milk and dairy products can lead to clearing up your skin. Even if you do not feel a milk allergy in your stomach, sometimes your skin can.
Treat Skin with Goldenseal & Vitamin E.
Mixing goldenseal root powder with vitamin E oil and a little honey into a loose paste applied to the affected area is a great way to help promote healing and relieve your dry, itchy skin.
Drink Dandelion Tea.
A tea made from dandelions is often suggested for dermatitis. Try a cup for a natural, easy way to reduce your symptoms and feed your skin with vitamins and minerals it needs.
Cut Gluten out of Your Diet.
A gluten free diet can be of benefit in controlling dermatitis. Many people are sensitive to gluten, although it usually goes unrecognized. Skin disorders often improve when a gluten free diet is adhered to for 6 weeks, and then foods that contain gluten are added back to the diet one at a time.
Do not Eat Raw Eggs.
Raw eggs contain avidin, a protein that binds biotin and prevents it from being absorbed. Biotin is critical to the skin for skin and scalp disorders.
