It is no secret that the way celebrities are portrayed have led to serious body and self esteem issues among young women. Recently a doctor in the UK has put forward the view that more men are developing a fixation on body image as well. In reports online, Dr. John Morgan was quoted as saying, "There are men who have problems with compulsive exercise and excessive bodybuilding who have an illness, but we haven`t defined them."
He offered as further evidence the rapid growth in the sale of men’s grooming products. According to the article, men can now choose products usually reserved for women. In his opinion the ideal male body image in most cases is achievable only by, "…making yourself sick, or taking certain kinds of illegal drugs".
Dr. Morgan heads the Yorkshire Centre for Eating Disorders in Leeds.
