Beauty Company Employees Arrested in Iran

Updated Sep 6, 2010

A cosmetics company has become the latest entity to get caught in the tense relationship Iran has with the rest of the world. Online reports indicate that five people employed to Oriflame, a Swedish beauty company, have been arrested. The Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi was quoted as saying, “Oriflame intended to fight the system. There are no economic reasons behind the company.”

Oriflame has issued its own statement discounting the allegations. Through a representative, the company said, “We are of course not involved in any political activities in the country.” The statement also said the company was not made aware of the charges leveled against the employees. Authorities in Iran have alleged that the five workers were involved in activities with the support of a spy organization.

Oriflame is a direct sales beauty company. It gives people the chance to make money through its direct sales program.
