Breast Enlargement from Stem Cells

Updated Feb 13, 2007

A breast enlargement technique developed in Japan is using stem cells and fats taken from the patient. The procedure it is said, gives a more natural look and feels smoother than enlargement from traditional implants. It has been reported that the procedure was approved for use in Germany last week, which also makes it legal in all European Union countries.

Japanese surgeon Kotaro Yoshimura who said he started using stem cells for cosmetic breast surgery in 2004. He further said none of his 39 patients to date has reported any major problems.

The procedure calls for a number of treatments and requires that twice the amount of fat needed is extracted. This is then divided into two; the stem cells are removed from one half and then injected into the remaining fat.
