An extract from the vegetable broccoli, sulforaphane, has been found to help reduce skin damage caused from exposure to UV radiation. According to the team of scientist led by Paul Talalay from
John
Hopkins
University,
School of
Medicine, the extract causes skin cells to use their own protective mechanism against UV rays. UV damage is said to be reduced by an average of 37.7 percent after application of the broccoli extract solution.
The sulforaphane remains in skin tissue for only a few hours but the results are believed to be long-lasting. According to the researchers this is an important factor as most sunscreen products do offer such long-lasting effect.
