Companies that manufacture hair care products without studies to back them up may soon be on the run. According to reports, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) has created a new software capable of counting hairs thereby making it easier to test the claims of these companies.
The imaging team was led by Pascal Valloton PhD, who found that hair counting done manually often led to mistakes or differences at each count. The new software utilizes a small scanner placed directly on the skin. This image is then evaluated by the software which returns information such as hair length and the amount of hair observed.
CSIRO has claimed that regardless of skin color or texture no variances were observed. Additionally, the software is capable of identifying small hairs.
