Following on the heels of finding banned chemicals in a number of cosmetic and skin care products being sold in the country, the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) said it will be monitoring more cosmetic brands.
The four brands named were Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome and Dior. Just last week, Chinese authorities found heavy metals, chromium and neodymium in nine Proctor and Gamble products manufactured in
Japan under the SK-II brand.
The SFDA noted that additional reports about these brands containing harmful chemicals led to the decision for additional monitoring. Use of chromium can lead to eczema, while skin irritations and liver damage can result from neodymium.
