Echinacea as Natural Skin Care Product Gets Approval in Germany

Updated Aug 17, 2006

Echinacea, long used for its healing properties, has been gaining a reputation in the natural skin care sector as well.   Currently, although not yet in wide supply, many skin care and personal care products made from Echinacea are on the market. These include shampoos, soaps, as well as by-products which are used to treat acne, boils and other skin problems. A number of recent studies support the claims of the plant’s beneficial effect on the skin. Some studies have found that the plant contain active substances that have antioxidant properties.

The German government has proved the use of Echinacea for use in skin care, especially for the treatment of minor wounds. Echinacea has slowly been creeping into natural skin care market over the last few years.

Also known as coneflower, this plant is found primarily in the USA (American coneflower) and Europe.
