Over the 2010 to 2011 period, the sale of skincare products in the prestige market, read that high end products, grew. Recent figures from market research company, NPD Group show that there was an 11 percent increase in sales. The recently released statistics from NPD Group also showed increases in the sale of fragrances and make-up as well. The company’s press release also revealed that fragrance sales increased by 13 percent, while make-up moved up by nine percent.
Vice president and senior global industry analyst for The NPD Group, Karen Grant stated in a press release, “In the U.S., for example, beauty sales in both the mass and prestige channels were positive month after month in 2011. And while both channels were positive, prestige beauty reigned supreme.”
Sale of prestige beauty products also increased in markets such as China and the UK.
