After concerns expressed by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics in 2007, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) again tested lipstick brands said to have high levels of lead. The FDA created a new testing method for this purpose and released a restructured Q&A on its findings.
According to reports, the FDA found that the levels of lead were within the range expected when produced in suitable conditions using allowed additives. It will however continue to perform tests to further bolster the results. The latest report will be published in the July/August issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Science.
