Republican presidential candidate, John McCain named his running mate for the 2009 presidential elections. His choice is 44-year old Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska.

Reports reveal that Palin was a former beauty queen, who was first runner-up in the 1984 Miss Alaska Beauty Pageant. Prior to placing in the Miss Alaska pageant she was Miss Wasilla. She won the Miss Congeniality prize in the Miss Wasila contest.

This election is proving to be one with lots of firsts and should be an interesting one regardless of who wins. First, Barack Obama is the first African American presidential nominee from a major political party and now, Palin the first female vice presidential candidate.
