Foxx Really Bites Into His Latest Role

Updated Nov 19, 2008

It seems the commitment of Jamie Foxx to his craft is without question. First he donned prosthetic eyelids and shed over 30 pounds to play the legendary Ray Charles. Now according to reports he chiseled his teeth to play a homeless musician in the movie The Soloist.

The character in the movie is schizophrenic and Foxx wanted his depiction to be as realistic as possible. Speaking about his decision in a recent interview the actor was quoted as saying, “I lost about 20 pounds (9.1 kilos) and I put a gap in my teeth. I had one chipped out with a chisel. My teeth are just so big and white - a homeless person would never have them.”

Only time will tell if this move pays off at the box office. The Soloist is due for release in 2009 and co-stars Robert Downey Jr. and Catherine Keener.
