‘Iffy’ Cosmetics Seized by FDA

Updated Nov 23, 2007

Age Intervention Eyelash, an eyelash lengthening beauty product has fallen under the Food and Drug Administration’s radar. Over 12,000 tubes of the product valued in excess of $2 million have been seized by the FDA. According to the FDA, Age Intervention Eyelash is an “unapproved and misbranded drug”. In essence, the product is neither a cosmetic nor a drug, but falls in between both. Age Intervention Eyelash is marketed by its manufacturer, Jan Marini Skin research as being able to promote eyelash growth.

In addition, the product contains bimatoprost, an ingredient in drugs used to treat ocular pressure. It is believed that persons using the drug in addition to Age Intervention Eyelash may damage their optic nerve due to excessive levels of bimatoprost.

JMSR had stopped making the product in 2006 after the FDA-findings but had them stored in a warehouse.
